If the World Cup Finalists Were Your Favourite Club...

Algeria - Leicester City – Nicknamed the Foxes, and heading back towards the big time.

Argentina – Manchester City – Inconsistent, but the men in sky blue could potentially go all the way. Tevez needs to be on target though.

Australia – Cardiff City – Not doing too badly for a place more associated with rugby and sheep shearing.

Brazil – Real Madrid – Who else could afford this squad?

Cameroon – Fulham – Popular outsiders. Always liable to ruffle feathers.

Chile – Crystal Palace – Draped in red and blue. Permanently overshadowed by more illustrious neighbours.

Cote d’Ivoire – Aston Villa – The best team in their neck of the woods promised much a few years ago. But have they reached their plateau?

Denmark – Leeds United – Lifted a major trophy with an aging side in 92, then fell into the doldrums after the early noughties. Seem to be in recovery mode now, however.

England – Tottenham Hotspur – Their glory, glory days were way back in the sixties, but they’re finally on a roll once more.

France – Arsenal – Still have plenty of Gallic flair, but not quite the force they were 10 years ago.

Germany – Manchester United – Nobody’s second favourite team. Specialize in jammy last minute goals.

Ghana – Stoke City – Have established themselves in the top league despite not having any real stars.

Greece – Birmingham City – Only play two up front on their more adventurous days.

Honduras – Brentford – Strictly there to make up the numbers.

Italy – Chelsea – With the Godfather in the dug-out, the best team of the mid-noughties remain a formidable force.

Japan – Wigan Athletic – Convinced they belong amongst the big boys, even if no-one else is.

Mexico – Paris Saint-Germain – The quintessential sleeping giants.

Netherlands – Newcastle United – No team enjoys a more passionate following, but trophies nearly always elude them.

New Zealand – Carlisle United – Rank outsiders from the middle of nowhere.

Nigeria – Blackburn Rovers – Made waves in the mid-nineties. Now confined to creating the odd ripple.

North Korea – Millwall – Everyone hates them and they don’t care.

Paraguay – Sunderland – A mid-table side in red and white stripes, though have little chance of climbing any higher in the near future.

Portugal – Everton – Not unfamiliar with the big time, but will always live in the shadow of their neighbours.

Serbia – Norwich City – Nicknamed after a bird, and flying in the right direction.

Slovakia – Notts County – After years of being outdone by the boys next door are finally emerging as a force in their own right.

Slovenia – West Bromwich Albion – A team in the ascendancy, inspired by Robert Koren.

South Africa – Hertha Berlin – Nice stadium, shame about the team.

South Korea – Wycombe Wanderers – Inspired giant-killing feats of the early noughties will, surely, never be emulated.

Spain – Liverpool – Can Fernando Torres inspire them to long overdue glory?

Switzerland – Wolverhampton Wanderers – Well organized at the back by their wily old coach.

Uruguay – Preston North End – A great side way back when. Today, not so much.

USA – Bristol City – Once considered a joke, but have improved in recent times. Could do with more local support though.
