0 minutes: Crofts kicks off to Lomas. Composed possession football, as Lomas passes to Jupp. Jupp with ball-at-feet. He tries to switch the point-of-attack by spreading play wide, but his team mate can't quite get to it. Throw-in.

2 minutes: Campo urges his team mates forwards. It looks like it's going to be a long-bomb, perhaps to Arteta? Alert play by Crofts, as he makes a good tackle. Simple pass to Lomas. Possession football, as Lomas shifts it to Crofts. Composed possession football, as Crofts passes to Ndumbu-Nsungu. Ndumbu-Nsungu controls the ball. He then lofts a cross into the box, towards Graham. Safety-first, as Pepe turns the cross away for a corner.

5 minutes: Fine corner by Ndumbu-Nsungu, towards the figure of Southall. It ricochets around the box, before Southall eventually stabs it just wide.

6 minutes: Kuszczak with the big kick, deep into the opposition half. Lomas gets a foot in, then shrugs off the attention of Arteta, before playing it short to Sodje. They're looking comfortable on the ball, as Sodje transfers possession to Lomas with the minimum of fuss. Lomas keeps play ticking over by moving the ball simply to Ndumbu-Nsungu. Attempted through-pass from Ndumbu-Nsungu to Facey. Pepe comes sliding across to make a fine block-tackle on Facey. He recovers well and kicks the ball downfield, away from the danger-area, towards Campo. The fans chant Pepe's name! Campo with the ball. He tries to go around the outside of Jupp, but Jupp is having none-of-it. Good tackle, as the ball rolls out for a throw-in to Campo.

9 minutes: Cahill in possession, after that short throw-in from Campo. Good passing and movement, as Cahill passes short to Arteta. Simple pass: Arteta to Campo. Campo with the ball. He tries to pick out the good run of Yakubu with a pass. Yakubu and Sodje tussle for the ball on the line. The ball rolls out for a throw-in and both players appeal. The linesman signals that it came off Sodje last.

12 minutes: Short throw taken by Yakubu to Baines. Baines moves quickly into an attacking position, before lifting his cross towards Arteta. Pressure by Lomas on Arteta. Lomas manages to rob Arteta of the ball and then plays it simple to Southall. Southall on to Crofts. Poor choice of pass, as Crofts plays it short to a tightly-marked Lomas. Arteta on Lomas. Arteta manages to brush him aside, but Lomas is not giving up so easily! Arteta with the ball. He picks out Cahill with a short pass. Cahill picks up the ball and, seeing the run of Solano, attempts to play him in. The flag goes up, against Solano, for offside. That had to be a close-call - isn't the attacker supposed to have the benefit of the doubt when calls are that marginal?

16 minutes: King strides up to take the free kick. He lofts it forward, playing it long to Ndumbu-Nsungu. Pressure by Neville on Ndumbu-Nsungu. Neville manages to rob Ndumbu-Nsungu of the ball and then plays it simple to Arteta. Good turn, as Arteta leaves his man for dead and breaks into space. Arteta bursts into the box, with only the goalie to beat - what does he have left, after that run? Not enough, as he skews his shot wide!

18 minutes: King receives the short goal kick from Royce. Thumped down the pitch by King. As so often happens, Cahill finds himself under the high ball. He deals with it calmly, playing a short side-footed volley to Arteta. Yakubu tries to race on to that long pass from Arteta. Snap-shot by Yakubu and it rattles off the top of the crossbar and over - unlucky!

21 minutes: Royce decides to play possession football, passing the goal kick short to Southall. Southall with the ball. He bangs in a cross into a scrum of players in the penalty area, led by Facey. Yobo under the ball. He hasn't heard the call from his goalkeeper and puts it out for a corner.

22 minutes: Short corner, as Ndumbu-Nsungu taps it to Southall. Southall with the ball at his feet and in a bit of space. He looks up, sees the movement of Graham in the box and delivers a peach of a cross. Graham just in the penalty area and with only Kuszczak to beat. Graham strikes it well but too close to Kuszczak, who manages to push it past the post - excellent save! Fine one-handed save by Kuszczak!

24 minutes: Ndumbu-Nsungu with the corner kick. He is trying to pick out Graham. Pepe reads the situation well, cleanly dispossessing Graham. He plays a simple pass to Arteta, who is in turn quickly closed-down. Their opponents are happy to back-off in deep areas, as King pauses and spots the short pass to Crofts. Crofts distributes possession to Ndumbu-Nsungu. Ndumbu-Nsungu has a quick look-up, before trying to slip-in Graham with a incisive pass. Yobo comes sliding across to make a fine block-tackle on Graham. He recovers well and kicks the ball downfield, away from the danger-area, towards Johnson. The fans chant Yobo's name! Johnson wins the header and loops his flick-on towards Solano. Solano comes forward with the ball. He's got a yard of space down the flank and hits a looping cross into the area, trying to pick out Campo. Strong play by Sodje, as he first dispossesses Campo, then plays it long to Facey. Facey attempts to play it down the line. Blocked by Neville, as the ball rolls out of play.

30 minutes: Ndumbu-Nsungu restarts the match with a simple throw-in to Lomas. Southall tries to race on to that long pass from Lomas. The ball is in the box and Baines decides to put safety first, knocking the ball out for a corner.

31 minutes: Ndumbu-Nsungu with the corner. It's angled at the back post, towards Crofts. Pressure by Arteta on Crofts. Arteta manages to rob Crofts of the ball and then plays it simple to Cahill. Composed possession football, as Cahill passes to Arteta. Arteta in possession. He plays a sweeping long pass, directly to Yakubu. Yakubu runs forward with the ball. He strikes the ball well, but Royce is well placed and shows excellent handling by hanging on to that shot. Royce hugs the ball to his body with one arm, while making 'calm down' motions with his other arm. Royce throws the ball out to King. King with ball-at-feet. 37 minutes: Royce plays a short goal kick to King. King in possession. He plays a sweeping long pass, directly to Ndumbu-Nsungu. The flag goes up, against Ndumbu-Nsungu, for offside. That had to be a close-call - isn't the attacker supposed to have the benefit of the doubt when calls are that marginal?

38 minutes: Having signalled for most of his team mates to go forwards, Neville pumps the free kick long, towards Campo. Jupp reads the game well and takes the ball off Campo. He keeps it simple and plays the short pass to Royce. Royce with the ball. He looks up and plays a lofted pass forward and down the pitch, in the approximate direction of Graham. As so often happens, Pepe finds himself under the high ball. He deals with it calmly, playing a short side-footed volley to Baines. Poor choice of pass, as Baines plays it short to a tightly-marked Campo. Crofts makes a simple lay-off to Southall. The defender needs to look-sharp here, as he is attacked by Southall, who has the ball at his feet. Good interception by Baines. He hits an early cross into the box but Royce is wise to the move and confidently comes to collect. Good covering, as Royce takes the ball from Baines and knocks it long, to Graham. 45 minutes: Kuszczak plays a short goal kick to Neville. Neat interplay, as Neville plays a short pass to Arteta.
